SH4R-2 Shelf
Cooling and Airflow
This figure provides visual details about the SH4R-2 cooling and airflow.
Figure 15: Top View of Airflow through the SH4R-2
The airflow direction accommodates another shelf directly above or below without the
need for an air gap between the shelves.
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE MAY RESULT IF THE SHELVES
OPERATE WITH OPEN OR EMPTY SLOTS.
To ensure proper airflow and cooling, all slots must be filled with
either a module or a slot cover at all times. When you replace
modules, make sure the time allotted between removal and
replacement is within one minute. If slots are left open or empty,
temperatures increase inside the shelf. If the temperature rises higher
than what a module can tolerate, it shuts down.
When you replace FTMs, make sure the time allotted between
removal and replacement is within one minute. However, if the
system is in thermal distress, that is the ambient temperature is
higher than 40°C (104°F), wait until the ambient temperature drops
before you replace the modules.
