Unpacking a 1UShelf
1. Attach a ground strap to your wrist and snap the ground wire to the wrist band. Insert
the ground plug into a grounded ESD jack.
2. Inspect the shipping boxes for evidence of damage during shipment. Claims for
damage during shipment must be asserted promptly with the transportation company
involved. If any damage or other signs of mishandling are evident, inform both the
freight carrier and ADVA Optical Networking before unpacking. Your freight carrier
can provide you with the procedures necessary to file a claim for damages.
3. Move the shipping box to a staging area as close to the installation site as possible,
where you have enough room to remove the shelf and components from the boxes.
Make sure that the shipping box has been in the installation location for a
minimum period of 24 hours to avoid thermal shock and surface
condensation when unpacking.
4. Open the shipping box:
a. Use a utility knife or scissors to cut open the adhesive tape. Pay attention not to
damage the flaps.
b. Lift the flaps toward you so that the box is opened completely.
5. Remove the unit box (Styrofoam) with the shelf and place it on a static-dissipative
mat.
6. Remove everything else from the cardboard box.
7. Take inventory. A packing slip is located in the box. Compare the contents of the box
with the packing slip and the copy of the purchase order list or equipment list
provided by ADVA Optical Networking to ensure complete and accurate shipment.
Make note of missing items, if necessary.
8. Remove the shelf from the shipping box.
9. Move the shelf to a stable surface in the work area and place it on a static-dissipative
mat. Do not release your grip until the shelf is secure.
ELECTROSTATIC CAUTION
Risk of damage due to electrostatic discharge!
Keep the shelf in its ESD protective bag until you are ready to inspect it.
