Shelf Lifting and Moving Guidelines
Shelf Lifting and Moving Guidelines
When the HD shelves are empty, they weight approximately:
l SH12 — 19.7 kg (43.3 lbs)
l SH4R and SH4R-2 — 13.9 kg (30.6 lbs)
l SH1R — 4 kg (8.8 lbs)
With modules installed, the shelf weighs more. Observe and follow these guidelines
when you lift and move an HD shelf:
l Before you move a shelf, verify that the intended site meets the specified power,
environmental, and clearance requirements in the Site Preparation Checklist.
l Never attempt to lift a fully configured HD shelf by yourself.
l Do not attempt to lift a shelf by yourself. We recommend that you use a mechanical lift
to maneuver the shelf into a rack. If you are unable to use a lift, a minimum of three
people are required to lift a larger shelf. For a smaller shelf, we recommend that a
minimum of two people lift the shelf. Before you lift the shelf, remove any components.
l Before you lift or move a shelf, disconnect all external cables.
l As for all situations when you lift and transport a heavy object:
o
Lift most of the weight using the strength of your legs rather than letting your back
carry most of the weight.
o
Keep your knees bent, your back relatively straight, and avoid twisting your body.
o
Balance the load evenly, and be sure that your footing is solid.
o
Walk slowly and carefully.
o
Use your leg strength to do the work when you set the shelf down on a smooth
surface.
o
Do not release your grip until the shelf is secure.
l To prevent damage to the shelf and components, never attempt to lift the shelf by the
handles, fiber tray, or the connectors on the front of the shelf. These components are
unable to support the weight of the shelf.
LIFTINGHAZARD CAUTION
The HD shelves are heavy. To avoid personal injury and damage to the
shelf, ADVA Optical Networking recommends having at least two people
to lift and mount the shelf into the rack.
