Prerequisites for Connecting the DC Power
Prerequisites for Connecting the DC Power
ELECTRIC VOLTAGEWARNING
Only service personnel or a qualified/licensed electrician are
allowed to connect DC power cables.
l The site wiring systems must be installed in accordance with your national and local
electrical safety standards.
l Site wiring must include a protective ground connection to the 48 VDC power source.
l A properly rated two-pole circuit breaker or single pole fuse is required between each
DC power source and each PSM of the shelf for over-current and short-circuit
protection. They must be incorporated into the site wiring system. The circuit breaker
or single pole fuse also serves as a disconnect device and must be readily accessible
at all times.
l Each PSMor power feed must use a separate power source, maintaining power
redundancy.
l When connecting dual DC power sources, both sources must have the same polarity.
l One customer-supplied power distribution unit (PDU) is installed at the top of each
rack and office battery power and return cables are connected to the PDU.
l The PDU must provide power nominally at 48 VDC to each shelf. You are
responsible for supplying and wiring the PDU to the power connections of the shelf.
l The equipment rack and the PDU are grounded by a safety ground wire in accordance
with local procedures.
l The DC power cables used must meet applicable standards for safety and
performance. The DC power cables must have wires of the proper size and must be of
the proper length. Make sure that the supply end of each cable is suitably prepared.
l Vertical cable management brackets are mounted on the front sides of the rack,
providing secure cable storage and cable protection.
