DCPower Source Requirements
l The AC receptacles should be a three-conductor grounding type and should be on
separate circuits.
l The AC receptacles should be easily accessible and should be located within a
reasonable distance, without requiring an extension cord.
l For overcurrent protection, external circuit breakers are required.
l Each PSM should have its own dedicated branch circuit with suitable electric ratings
according to local safety standards. A dedicated two-pole circuit breaker must protect
the circuit, and the circuit breaker should be properly rated.
l An on-off switch can be located between the AC receptacle and the PSM. Instead of a
dedicated on-off switch, you might consider the use of an IEC 60320 appliance coupler
for the power line disconnect.
l The AC wall attachment plug of the power cable should be a three-conductor grounding
type, must be electrically connected to the equipment grounding cable, and must be
approved for the use in the specific region or country.
l Site wiring must include a ground connection to the AC power source.
Globally, electrical plugs and socket-outlets differ in voltage and current
rating, shape, size, and connector types. Each country sets national
standards for the types of connectors to use, some of which are listed in
the IEC technical report TR 60083.

DCPower Source Requirements
The DC-powered shelf operates at nominal –48 VDC, and the positive conductor of the
power source connects to a ground.
Adhere to these requirements and guidelines for the DCpower source:
l Isolated DC return (DC-I).
l Common DC return (DC-C).
l Two –48 V battery-based power supplies or AC/DC rectifiers, isolated from each
other, which is required for input power redundancy.
l One customer-supplied power distribution unit (PDU) per rack (required).
