Replacing a PSM
8. Return the defective PSM to ADVA Optical Networkingas described in Returning
Equipment
To install the new module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESD jack.
2. Verify that the power source is disconnected from the PDU.
3. Hold the PSM upright with the faceplate toward you.
4. Insert the PSMinto the appropriate slot.
5. Gently apply pressure to the faceplate while you push the module into the slot.
6. Push on the faceplate to fully seat the module. The module is completely inserted
when its faceplate is flush with the back plate of the shelf.
7. After you have completely inserted the PSM, hand-tighten the thumb screws to
prevent inadvertent dislodging.
8. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to gently tighten the retaining screw as needed. Do not
overtighten.
9. For North America and Japan installations, verify that the ACpower cord is equipped
with a snap-on ferrite.
10. Insert the AC power coupler(s) into the receptacle(s) on the PSM.
11. Insert theACpower cable plug(s) into the dedicated ACpower source outlet.
The ACpower cable plug serves as the main disconnection device.
Therefore, the dedicated AC power outlet must remain accessible so as
to be readily operable for use.
12. If the dedicated AC power source outlet has a power switch, set it to the ON (|)
position to power on the system for the first time.
The Mod LED of the first PSM should turn green to indicate that the units are
functioning properly.
If the Mod LED of the PSM is off, no power is being supplied to the unit. In
case of an error, the Mod LED turns red. For troubleshooting information,
see Troubleshooting with Component LEDs or contact ADVA Optical
Networking for technical assistance.
