REAR AXLE COMPONENTS
Rear brake lining: Removal - Refitting
33A
REAR BRAKE BOSCH: 9 INCHES
Replace all the brake pads on one axle at the same
time. Never mix brake pads of different brands or qual-
ities.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a Release the parking brake.
a Remove:
-the rear wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) ,
-the brake drums (see 33A, Rear axle compo-
nents, Rear brake drum: Removal - Refitting,
page 33A-7) .
II - REMOVAL OPERATION
a Remove the lower spring (1) then the upper spring
(2) using brake shoe pliers.
a Place pliers on the slave cylinder pistons.
a Remove:
- the spring (3) on the incremented automatic com-
pensation system,
- the retaining spring (4) from the trailing shoe link-
age,
-the side retaining springs (5) while holding the con-
necting rod in contact with the brake back-plate,
- the linkage (6) .
a Alternately remove each shoe base (D) from the
fixed bridge piece (C) .
a Remove:
- the leading shoe (A) ,
- the trailing shoe (B) .
a Uncouple the parking brake cable from the parking
brake lever.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a Remove any dust from the brake drums and back-
plates using BRAKE CLEANER (see Vehicle:
Parts and consumables for the repair) (04B, Con-
sumables - Products).
IMPORTANT
Consult the safety and cleanliness advice and oper-
ation recommendations before carrying out any
repair (see 30A, General information, Brake cir-
cuit: Precautions for the repair, page 30A-2) .
