REAR AXLE COMPONENTS
Complete rear axle system: Removal - Refitting
4X2 TRANSMISSION
33A
a Strap the rear axle onto the component jack.
a Position the rear axle under the vehicle.
a Coat the threads of the bearing bolts with HIGH
STRENGTH THREADLOCK (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consum-
ables - Products).
II - REFITTING OPERATION
a Position the bearing locators opposite the centring
holes.
a Refit the bolts starting with the left-hand bearing.
a Insert the brake pipes into their housing.
a Attach the compensator rod (5) to the rear axle (if fit-
ted to the vehicle).
a Retighten the rigid brake pipe unions on the hoses.
a Remove the safety strap(s) and the component
jack.
a Refit the brake back-plates.
a Torque tighten the bearing bolts (105 N.m).
a Torque tighten:
-the rigid pipe unions on the brake cylinders (14
N.m),
-the rigid pipe unions on the hoses (14 N.m).
a Refit:
-the rear suspension springs (see 33A, Rear axle
components, Rear suspension spring: Remov-
al - Refitting, page 33A-14) ,
-the parking brake cables.
a Check that the parking brake cable stops are proper-
ly inserted in their housing.
a Refit the brake drums (see 33A, Rear axle compo-
nents, Rear brake drum: Removal - Refitting,
page 33A-7) .
a Refit the cables and the wheel speed sensors (if fit-
ted to the vehicle).
a Connect the parking brake control unit cables to the
compensator.
a Adjust the rear axle (see Rear axle system: Adjust-
ment) .
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Refit the rear wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) .
a Remove the pedal press.
a Bleed the brake circuit (see 30A, General informa-
tion, Braking circuit: Bleed, page 30A-4) .
