Replacing an ECM
i. Change directory to /rdisk
# cd /rdisk
ii. Enter this command:
#extract_ecm_files <database filename>
Enter the database encryption password if prompted.
These steps extract the ECM file(s) from the database in NCU RAM. Each ECM file
name has the associated HDshelf ID appended to the end.
To remove the module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. If required, disconnect the cables from the ECM-3.
3. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to unscrew the thumb screw from the ECM-3.
4. Lift out on the locking lever to disconnect the module from the backplane.
5. Grasp the lever and carefully slide the ECM-3 out of the shelf.
6. Place the defective ECM-3 on a static-dissipative mat.
7. Return the defective ECM-3 to ADVA Optical Networking as described in Returning
Equipment
To install the new module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. Stand behind the shelf and then hold the replacement ECM-3 with the faceplate
toward you and the lever extended.
3. Align the ECM-3 edges with the guides of the shelf slot.
4. Lift out the lever and gently apply pressure to the bottom of the faceplate while you
push the module into the slot.
5. Push on the faceplate to fully seat the module.
6. Press down on the locking lever to secure the module and connect it to the
backplane. The module is completely inserted when its faceplate is flush with the
faceplates of the adjacent modules and the shelf panels.
7. After you have completely inserted the ECM-3, hand-tighten the thumb screw to
prevent inadvertent dislodging.
8. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to gently tighten the thumb screw. Do not overtighten.
9. Use a USB to RJ-45 cable to connect the laptop USB port (COMx) to the ECM-3
Serial port.
10. Open a PuTTYsession and enter these fields:
o
Serial line = appropriate COMx port
1
o
Speed = 115200
o
Connection type = serial
11. Click Open.
12. Select one of these steps, depending on the interface that is used to connect to the
HDshelf:
a. When using the ECM-3 M2 port, set the IPaddress and subnet mask for the
ECM-3 M2 interface.
set dcn dcn-interface M2 169.254.0.62/24
