FTM-2
Under normal ambient conditions, the FTM-2s operate at a low rotational speed. The fan
control integrated in the CEM-2 continually monitors the status of each fan and reports
each fan status to the ECM-2. You can also see the fan status on the fan LED indicator
on its faceplate.
If a single FTM-2 fails to work properly, such as at a lower speed than expected, its LED
becomes yellow and a fan abnormal alarm is raised. If an FTM-2 fails, its LED becomes
red and a fan fault alarm is raised. In this case, the intact fans increase their rotational
speed to maximum in order to compensate for the loss of cooling due to the failed FTM-2.
The failure of a single fan does not endanger the cooling of the
modules in the shelf up to 104°F(40°C) ambient temperature.
However, you should replace the failed FTM-2 within 48 hours of its
failure.
If two FTM-2s fail, the airflow inside the shelf might be insufficient to
keep the modules cool. The shelf can overheat, and individual
modules might shut down.
When you need to remove or replace an FTM-2, to avoid causing the shelf temperature to
increase, it is important to remove or replace it as quickly as possible (less than one
minute).
