EVC Definition
AnEVCisalogicalenti tythatprovidesameansforconnectingtwoendpointsintheTotal
Access5000andprovidesapathforEthernetframeswithaparticularVLANIDwithinthe
TotalAccess5000. TheEVCcross‐connectstwoendpointsandprovidesthemechanismby
whichanS‐tag
pathiscreatedinthesystem.TheS‐tagcorrespondstotheVLANID.For
example,intheEoTDMapplicationanEVCcross‐connectiscreatedbetweenaphysical
networkportandalogicalEFMbondinggroup.Trafficenteringthenetworkportonthe
selectedS‐tagissentby
theGigESMtotheDS3EFM4‐Portcontainingthebondinggroupand
thenforwardedtothebondinggroupbythemodule.
IntheTotalAccess5000,customertrafficswitchesthroughoutthesystemviaS‐tags
(outermostVLANtagonanEthernetpacket).Downstreamtrafficentersthesystemthrough
the
networkportsontheGigESMandisS‐tagswitchedtotheappropriateslot.TheDS3EFM
4‐Portthendecideshowtosendthattraffictothecustomer.Upstreamtrafficisswitchedtothe
networkinasimilarmanner.
If the NetVanta 800 management VLAN differs from the GigE SM
managementVLAN,create acrossconnectfortheGigESMtopassthe
NetVanta800managementtraffic.Whencreating acrossconnect,setupthe
crossconnectwith anS‐tagequaltotheNetVanta80 0managementVLAN,
pointingtotheappropriateEFMGroup.
EVC Cross Connect Guidelines
Whencreatingacross‐connect,enforcethefollowingguidelines:
•AnEVCcannotbepartofanothercross‐connect
• EachEVCmusthaveauniqueS‐tag
Whendeployedin a Multi‐Nodenetwork,eachEoTDMcustomer still
requiresauniqueS‐tag.TheTotalAccess5000cannotalertusersifVLANs
arealreadyinuseonanotherNode.
