Proceed as follows to replace the fuel prefilter cartridge:
– Park the vehicle and shut off engine.
– Clean a wide area around the fuel filter.
– Disconnect the cable to the water separator sensor.
– Remove the filter cartridge with a filter wrench.
– Remove the water separator from the filter cartridge and clean it thoroughly with a
moist cloth. Check that the drainage outlet at the bottom is not blocked.
– Install new sealing ring on the water separator and lightly coat with fuel.
– Install water separator on new filter. The water separator is tightened about 1/3 rev-
olution after installation.
– Lightly coat the sealing ring of the new cartridge with fuel.
– Install new filter cartridge. The fuel prefilter cartridge is tightened about 1/2 - 2/3
revolution after installation.
– Connect the cable to the water separator sensor.
– Bleed the fuel system, See Page 376
– Check the fuel system for leaks.
Draining water from the fuel prefilter cartridge
The accumulated water must be drained if the water collecting vessel of the fuel pre-
filter at the electric pump is full, freezing weather is forecast or the R-Touch shows an
error message.
– Unscrew drain plug (3).
– Let the water drain.
– Retighten the drain screw.
