4.7. Setup syslog communication
Syslog overview
Syslog(SystemLoggingProtocol)isacommunicationprotocolwhichisusedtosendsystemlogorevent
messagestoaserverthatsupportsSyslog.ThisprotocolisaSimplexCommunicationProtocolmeaning
informationonlygetssentinonedirection.Thecontroller,actingasanagent,hasthecapabilitytosend
eventlogandmodulelogmessagestoaconfiguredSyslogserver.
4.7.1. Syslog agent configuration
TosetuptheSyslog Agent onthecontroller:
1. GotoController > Communication > Syslog.
2. IntheConfiguration table,selecttheEDIT buttonandthenselectEnable fromthedropdown
menu.
3. IftheFacility Value isdifferentthatLocal0(default),setthevalueusingtheEDIT buttontothe
expectedvaluefortheSyslogserver.
4. FollowtheSyslogdestinationconfigurationsectioninthismanualtoconfigurespecificSyslog
servers
4.7.2. Syslog destination configuration
Onthecontroller,aSyslogserverisconsideredadestination.Thecontrollercanbeconfiguredforup
to10receivingdestinationsmeaning10differentSyslogserverscanreceivecontrollercuratedSyslog
messages.AnymessagesgeneratedintheLogs > Events & Alerts pageofthecontrollerwillbesentto
aSyslogdestination.BesuretoenabletheSyslogagent,detailedinSyslogagentconfigurationsectionof
thismanual,priortostartingthissectionotherwisenomessageswillbereceivedforanySyslogserver.
1. GotoController > Communication > Syslog.
2. IntheSyslog Destinations table,selecttheGO TO buttonforonedestination.
3. Forthissingledestination,usingtheEDIT buttonforeachconfiguration,configuretheServerIP
Address,ServerPort,andRFCVersiontostartreceivingSyslogmessages.
4.7.3. Syslog message format
AcontrollerSyslogmessagewillcontainapriority,someheaderdata,andthemessage.
An example message using Linux rSyslog:
Aug088:58:00,192.168.0.99,CXCHP[v8.00],ControllerEvent,[Source]:WebUser,[Name]:Logon,
