system.
6.1. Introduction to converter systems
ADC-DCconvertersystemtakesaDCinputvoltageandconvertsittoadifferentoutputvoltage.
Aconvertersystemprovidesflexibilitythatallowsyoutomaintainasinglevoltagebatterysystem.
ConvertersprovideDC-DCpowerconversion(forexample,from+24Vto–48V)toproduceaconsistent
voltagesourceforequipmentthatisnotcompatiblewiththeprimaryplantvoltage.Converterscanbe
usedtocreatedualvoltagecapabilityinnewsystemsor upgradestoexistingDCplants.Theyprovide
tightvoltageregulationforsensitiveloadsaswellasgalvanicisolation.
Mixed converter system
Differenttypesofconvertersmustbeusedwithindifferentconvertersystems,checkyoursystemand
rectifierorconvertermanualsforalistofanydefaultparametersorrequirements.
Components of a converter system
Aconvertersystemconsistsofasource,convertersandaloadasshowninthefollowingdiagram.
ConvertersshouldhavededicatedfuseorcircuitbreakerpositionsonthemainDCpowersystemfor
protectionandisolation.
