23.2.6. Using extended ranges
Ifyour12Vdc,24Vdc,or48Vdcsystemhasabatteryandrectifiermodulesthatcanoperateoutsideof
thenormalranges,youcanenableextendedrangestoallowyourDCsystemtorunoutsidethenormal
ranges.
23.2.6.1. Extended ranges for battery testing
Normally,12Vdc,24Vdc,and48Vdcsystemshaveafairlynarrowrangeofvoltagesallowedforbattery
testing.Thesevoltagesarebasedonwhatisconsiderednormalforthebatteriesandwhatispossiblefor
therectifiers.Therangesaresetthiswaytoavoiderrorswhenconfiguringanewsystem.The125Vdc
and220Vdcsystemshaveawiderrangeofbatterytestvoltagesbecausethereareawidervarietyof
batteryconfigurationsusedwiththosesystems.
1. GotoSystems > DC System > Configure System.Intheconfigurationtable,changethe
Extended Ranges (Advanced) settingfromNormal toExtended.
2. GotoSystems > DC System > Inventory > Rectifiers > Configuration.Intheconfiguration
table,settheMinimum Test Voltage tothelowestvalueallowedbyyourrectifier.

GotoSystems > DC System > System Functions > Battery Test.Intheconfigurationtable,set
theBattery Test Termination Voltage tothevoltageyouwantthebatterytesttorunto.
WestronglyrecommendthattheBattery Test Termination Voltage onthebatterytestpagebeat
least0.5voltshigherthantheMinimum Test Voltage ontherectifierconfigurationpage.
23.2.6.2. Extended ranges for battery equalization
Normally,batteryequalizationisaprocessdesignedtode-sulphateabattery’splatesbyholdinga
controlledoverchargeovertheperiodofafewhours.TheExtended Ranges optionwillallowmuch
longerdurationsthanisgenerallyusedforthebatteryequalizationprocess.Thisoptionhelpstosupport
systemswithunusualconfigurations.
CAUTION: Equalization for extended periods can cause excessive gassing and plate damage.
