16. Thermal systems
Thissectionprovidesabriefoverviewofthecomponentsandfunctionsofathermalsystem.
16.1. Introduction
Athermalsystemprovidesinsightintoathermallycontrolledoutdoorcabinet.Itisintendedtobeused
togetherwithoneormoreFlexAir®thermalcontrollers.Athermalsystemenablesactivitiessuchas
loggingsystemtemperaturemeasurementsormonitoringfanspeed,andholdsvariousalarmsrelatedto
anoutdoorcabinet,suchasunsuitableinternaltemperaturealarmsorfanfailurealarms,ifthethermal
controllerhasfans.
16.2. Create a thermal system
To create a new thermal system:
1. GotoSystems > Add or Remove Systems andselecttheCreate System buttontolaunchthe
Create System wizard.
2. IntheCreate System wizard,inthedropdownlistfortheSelect System To Create Step,choose
tocreateaThermal System.
16.3. Thermal system configurations
Thethermalsystemisdesignedwiththeexpectationofa1:1relationshipwithaphysicalcabinet.Ifthe
controllerhandleshardwareinmorethanonecabinet,multiplethermalsystemsshouldbecreated.There
maybesituationswherethereismorethanonethermalcontrollerinagivencabinet.Thisisacceptable.
16.3.1. Single-cabinet setup
Whenthecontrollerhandlesequipmentinonlyonecabinet,asinglethermalsystemshouldbecreated.
WhenathermalcontrollermoduleisconnectedviaCANtothecontroller,bydefault,itisautomatically
addedtothethermalsystem.Ifithasbeensetupformanualconfiguration,thenaddthemodulestothe
thermalsystemmanuallyasdescribedinthemulti-cabinetsetup.
16.3.2. Multi-cabinet setup
Whenthecontrollerhandlesequipmentinmultiplecabinets,athermalsystemshouldbecreatedforeach
physicalcabinet.Whentherearemultiplethermalsystems,itisimportanttogiveeachthermalsystema
customnametodifferentiatethemfromeachother.Thecontrollerdoesnotknowhowever,whichcabinet
thethermalcontrollermodulesareinstalledin.Thereforethemodulesmustbemanuallyaddedtothe
respectivethermalsystems.Todothis:
