Modules
Amoduleisadevicethatcommunicatesinformation.MostmodulesinacontrollersystemwillbeCAN
devicessuchasrectifiers,converters,inverters,andADIOmodules.Futurereleases,mayhavemodules
suchasEthernetandUSB-serialconnectedmodules.
Sincethecontrollercancommunicatewithmodules,eachmoduleinthesystemshouldalsohavea
Communications Lost alarm.Mostmodulesarereplaceable,becauseofthistherearefunctionswithin
thesystemtoremoveoldmodulesandcreatenewones.Somemodulesalsohavetheabilitytodownload
reportsanddiagnosticinformationviathecontroller.
Inventory
Aninventoryitemisanitemthatisdirectlyinvolvedintheflowofpowerthroughthesystem.Forexample,
arectifierisaninventoryitembutacontrolleroranADIOmoduleisnot.Otherexamplesofsystem
inventoryare:ACsource,rectifier,load,battery,disconnect,shunt,DCCT,breaker,andpowermeter.
Settinguptheinventoryofasystemfocusesonthemonitoring,notthecontrolofthesystem.
Youcansetmonitoringinoneofthreeways:
1.
Iftheinventoryitemisalsoamodule,youcancommunicatewithitdirectly,suchaswithrectifiers.
2.
IftheinventorycanbemeasuredorcontrolledviaanADIOmodule,thenyoucanmapthe
inventorytoreaddatathroughtheADIOmodule,suchaswithshunts,batteries,current
transducers,anddisconnects.
3.
Iftheinventoryitem’svaluescanbeinferredthroughacalculation,thenyoucanmaptheinventory
tousethatcalculationsuchaswithACsourcesandDCloads.
System functions
Systemfunctionsarethemajorfeaturesofthesystem.Someexamplesare:

• Chargecurrentcontrol

Voltageregulation
• Temperaturecompensation
Oncetheinventoryisinplacetomonitorthesystem,youcanconfigureandtestthesystemfunctionsto
ensurethatthesystemisworkingasintended.
