TheES80recordsallthetargetsfromthesmallestplanktontothelargestwhale.
Thebiomassvalueisanindicatortohowmuchshyoucurrentlyhaveinthebeam.
Everysingleshwillemitanecho,andthesumofalltheseregisteredechoesare
presentedasanumber.Smallerorganismssuchasplanktonwillalsoemitechoes,
butthesearesoweakthattheywillhardlyinuenceonthetotalbiomass.
Thebiomassvalueprovidesyouwithinformationabouttheshabundance,andas
suchitmayhelpyoutodecideifitpaysofftostartshing.However,youmust
considerifthebiomassvalueisaresultoflargeamountsofplanktonorbait,orif
youhave"realsh"belowthekeel.Thebiomassvalueisrelative,andaftersome
useyourexperiencewillbeavaluablefactorwhenthedecisionismade.

Youmayexperienceveryhighandunrealisticbiomassvaluesthatdonotmatchthe
informationintheechogram.TrythePing-PingFilter.ThePing-PingFilteranalyses
thehistoricalinformationfrompreviousconsecutivepingsinordertoremove
unwantednoiseandinterferencefromtheES80presentation.

TheCalculationIntervalsettingsdenetheparametersthatareusedtocalculatethe
biomass.Youcanbasethecalculationsonsaileddistance,elapsedtime,oraportionof
theechogramview.

Thebiomassandsizedistributionvaluesarecalculatedbasedontheechodatacollected
bytheES80.UsetheCalculationIntervalsettingstolimitthesourcedatausedbythese
calculations.Youcanbasethecalculationsondatacollected

•fromthedatausedtocreateaportionofthecurrentview
TheCalculationIntervalparameterscanaccessedfromtwoplacesintheES80user
interface.

Theparametersarethesame,itdoesnotmatterifyouusethepageorthedialogbox.
