ChoosingRangeandStartRangevaluesinasurfacerelated
echogram
ASurfaceechogramismainlyusedwhenyouwishtolookattheentirewatercolumn
startingfromtheseasurfaceanddowntothebottom.InaSurfaceechogram,thestart
depthoftheechogramisdenedbythepositiveStartRangedepthvalue.Therangefrom
thisstartdepthanddownisdenedbytheRangevalue.
Context
TheRangesettingdeneshow"deep"youwishtheES80todetectechoes.Inother
words,thisistheverticaldistancebetweenthe"top"andthe"bottom"oftheechogram.
TheRangesettingspeciesthe"bottom"depth,whiletheStartRangesettingspecies
the"top"depth.
Therangeyouspecifyappliestothecurrentlyselectedechogram.Itisidentiedwitha
thickborder.Severalechogramtypesareavailable.
InaSurfaceechogram,theStartRangevalueisusedtodeterminefromwhichdepththe
echogramshallstart.Thisisnormallychosentobeafewmetersbelowtheseasurface.
TheRangevalueisthenusedtodenetheverticalextensionoftheechogram.The
RangemaybesettoAuto,butforscienticpurposesaxedrangeisrecommended.The
AutosettingallowstheES80toautomaticallydeterminethedepthrangebasedonthe
bottomdetection.

StartRange
inasurfacerelatedechogram
Inasurfaceechogram,settheStartRangevalueto0meters.Thiswill
maketheechogramstartfromtheseasurface(providedthatthetransducer
offsethasbeendened).SetRangetothecurrentdepthplus20meters.The
echogramwillnowshowtheareafromtheseasurfaceanddownto20
meters"below"thebottom.Thebottomcontouriseasilydetectedwhen
thedepthchanges.

1Clickinanyechogramviewtomakeit"active".
Thesettingyouchoosewillonlybevalidforthecurrently"active"echogram.The
"active"echogramviewisidentiedwithathickerborder.
2ObservetheMainmenu.
ItsdefaultlocationisontherightsideoftheES80presentation.
3LocatetheStartRangefunction.
4ChooseapositivevalueforStartRangetoplacethetopoftheechogramatthe
preferreddepthundertheseasurface.
