TheES80WideBandTransceiver(WBT)isprovidedtotransmitacousticenergythrough
water.Thistransmissionandreceptionarecommonlyreferredtoasaping.Aftereach
transmission,thetransceiverreceivestheechoesfromthetargetsinthewaterand/orthe
seabed.Theseechoesarelteredandampliedandthenconvertedintodigitalformat.
TheWideBandTransceiver(WBT)comprisesarugged
boxprovidingallnecessarytransmitterandreceiver
electronics.Thereceiverisdesignedforlownoise,
anditcanhandleinputsignalsspanningaverylarge
instantaneousdynamicamplituderange.Alltargetsare
correctlymeasured.Thetransceiveroperateswithina
largefrequencyband,andsupportssinglefrequencies,
frequencysweep(chirp)anduserdenedwaveforms.
TheWideBandTransceiver(WBT)isdesignedforapplicationswhereperformance
isthetoppriority.Ithasfour500Wchannelsthatcaneitherworkindependently
withsinglebeamtransducers,ortogetherwithasplitbeamtransducer.Thedesignis
optimizedforapplicationswherepowerconsumptionandphysicalsizeisnotcritical.
AhighqualityEthernetcableconnectstheWideBandTransceiver(WBT)tothe
ProcessorUnit.ThedistancebetweentheProcessorUnitandthetransceivercanbe
extendeduptomaximum70meters.Ifalongercableisrequired,cutitinhalf,andinsert
anEthernetswitchtoprovidebufferamplication.

IfmorethanoneWideBandTransceiver(WBT)isused,asmallhighcapacityEthernet
switchisrequiredtoconnectthetransceiverstotheProcessorUnit.
TheWideBandTransceiver(WBT)requiresanexternalpowersupplyoffering12to15
Vdc,minimum5A.Asuitablepowersupplyisprovidedwiththedelivery.

TheES80alsosupportstheuseofGeneralPurposeTransceiver(GPT)transceivers.
InordertouseGeneralPurposeTransceiver(GPT)transceivers,minimumoneWide
BandTransceiver(WBT)mustbeinstalledrsttohandlethesoftwarelicenseforthe
ES80system.
