Surfaceechogramdescription
ASurfaceechogramismainlyusedwhenyouwishtolookattheentirewatercolumn
startingfromtheseasurfaceanddowntothebottom.Sincethisechogramisreferenced
totheseasurface,thebottomcontourwillvarywiththeactualdepth.Youcanselect
thestartrange(thedepthfromwhichtheechogramstarts)andtheverticalrange(the
vertical"length"oftheechogram)bymeansoftheStartRangeandRangesettings.Both
theRangeandtheStartRangefunctionsarelocatedontheMainmenu.
Howtoopen
ToactivateSurfaceechogram,clickinthechosen
viewtomakeit"active".SelectEchogramontheActive
menu.SelecttheEchogramtabtoopenthepage.OntheEchogrampage,setEchogram
typetoSurface.
Description
TheSurfaceechogramisoftenusedtostudythewatercolumnfromafewmetersunder
thehullanddowntothebottom.IfyousetuptheStartRangeandRangedepthstoplace
thebottomcontouratthelowerendoftheechogram,youwillhavegoodopportunityto
studytheechoesfromthewatercolumn.Sincethisechogramisreferencedtothesea
surface,thebottomcontourwillvarywiththeactualdepth.
ThebiomassisautomaticallycalculatedbasedonchoicesyoumakeintheCalculation
Intervaldialogbox;withinagiventimeframe,adenednumberofpings,oraportionof
theechogramview.Thedataisthentakenfromanechoareastartingimmediatelyafter
thetransmitpulse,andendingjustoverthedetecteddepth.
Ifyouhavelimitedyourverticalrange(usingtheStartRangeandRangesettings),the
resultingareaisusedforthebiomasscalculation.Iftheseabedisclearlydenedwith
auniquebottomdetection,thebottomechowillnot
beincludedinthecalculations.
Therefore,ifyouswitchthebottomdetectoroff,thebottomechowillbeincludedin
thecalculation.
