InPassivemode,theES80willreceiveandcomputethesignalsdetectedbythe
transducer(s).Thismodeisthususefulfortestpurposes,andwhenyouwishtomeasure
theambientbackgroundnoiseinthesea.ItcanalsobeusefultoruntheES80inPassive
modetodiscriminatebetweentargetechoes(presentonlyinActivemode)andnoise
(presentinbothActiveandPassivemodes).
Context
Ifyouwishtoinvestigatetheambientnoise,choosePassivemodeintheNormal
Operationdialogbox.Anynoiseordisturbanceinthewater-withinthetransducer's
frequencyrange-willthenbedetectedandshown.Thisfeaturewillforexamplebe
abletopickupdisturbancesfromotherhydroacousticsystemsonyourownvessel,or
onothervesselsinthevicinity.

Procedure
1OpentheOperationmenu.
2SelectNormalOperation.
ObservethattheNormalOperationdialogboxopens.
3Fortherelevanttransceiverchannel,setModetoPassive.

IfyousetModetoPassive,yourES80willnolongerprovideanyinformationin
theechogram(s).
4SelectOKtosavetheselectedsettingandclosethedialogbox.
