InPassivemode,theES80willreceiveandcomputethesignalsdetectedbythe
transducer(s).Thismodeisthususefulfortestpurposes,andwhenyouwishtomeasure
theambientbackgroundnoiseinthesea.ItcanalsobeusefultoruntheES80inPassive
modetodiscriminatebetweentargetechoes(presentonlyinActivemode)andnoise
(presentinbothActiveandPassivemodes).
Context
Ifyouwishtoinvestigatetheambientnoise,choosePassivemodeintheNormal
Operationdialogbox.Anynoiseordisturbanceinthewater-withinthetransducer's
frequencyrange-willthenbedetectedandshown.Thisfeaturewillforexamplebe
abletopickupdisturbancesfromotherhydroacousticsystemsonyourownvessel,or
onothervesselsinthevicinity.
