5.9.1 Knife Drive Box
Knife drive boxes convert rotational motion into the reciprocating motion of the knife, and are belt driven by a
hydraulic motor that is powered by the hydraulic pump on the adapter. There is one knife drive box on single-reel
headers and two knife drive boxes on double-reel headers.
CAUTION
To avoid personal injury, before servicing machine or opening drive covers, refer to 5.1 Preparing Machine
for Servicing, page 321.
Checking Mounting Bolts
Check the torque on the four knife drive box mounting bolts and after the first 10 hours operation and every 100
hours thereafter.
DANGER
To avoid bodily injury or death from unexpected start-up or fall of a raised machine, always stop engine
and remove key before leaving the operator’s seat, and always engage safety props before going under
the machine for any reason.
