IfyouhaveotherechosoundersorsonarsrunningasynchronouswiththeES80,these
systemsmaycauseinterference.TheES80maydetectandmeasurethetransmitpulses
fromotherhydroacousticsystems,andthesepulseshaveaneffectonthebiomass
calculations.Toavoidallinterference,afullsynchronizationofthevariousacoustic
instrumentsisrequired.Ifyourownvesselproducesexcessivenoisethiswillalsobe
takenintothebiomasscalculationsandgiveyouinaccuratedata.
TheES80recordsallthetargetsfromthesmallestplanktontothelargestwhale.The
biomassvalueisanindicatortohowmuchshyoucurrentlyhaveinthebeam.Every
singleshwillemitanecho,andthesumofalltheseregisteredechoesarepresentedas
anumber.Smallerorganismssuchasplanktonwillalsoemitechoes,buttheseareso
weakthattheywillhardlyinuenceonthetotalbiomass.
Thebiomassvalueprovidesyouwithinformationabouttheshabundance,andassuch
itmayhelpyoutodecideifitpaysofftostartshing.However,youmustconsiderifthe
biomassvalueisaresultoflargeamountsofplanktonorbait,orifyouhave"realsh"
belowthekeel.Thebiomassvalueisrelative,andaftersomeuseyourexperiencewillbe
avaluablefactorwhenthedecisionismade.
Youcanchangethescaleofthecurvetottheverticalspaceavailableontheechogram.
