Description
Thetransmission("pinging")fromtheES80canbeturnedonoroff.Selectthemiddleof
thebuttontoseethechoices,oreithersidetoenableordisabletransmission.Theping
symbolontherightsideofthebuttonisalsousedtotransmitsinglepings.
OncepingingisOn,usethePingModefunctiontochoosehowoftentheES80shall
transmit.
Tip
ThephrasepingrateisusedtodescribetheparameterthatcontrolshowoftentheES80
canorshalltransmitacousticenergy(a"ping")intothewater .
IfyouobserveapelagicechoontheES80,anditseemstofollowthebottomcontour,it
mayinfactbeafalseechofromtheprevioustransmission("ping").Theonlywayto
removethisfalseechoistoreducethepingrate.Ifyoudothis,alltheechoesfromthe
previouspingwillhavedisappearedbeforeyoutransmitthenext.
Onoldpaperbasedechosoundersthepenspentalongtimeontherearsideofthepaper
tray,andthatreducedthepingrate.TheES80isalot
faster,andyoumaysendouta
pingevenbeforetheenergyfromthepreviouspinghasdisappeared.

TheES80"pings"(transmits)energyintothewater.Thepingmodeifcontrolled
bythePingModeandPingIntervalsettings.
Off
TheES80doesnot"ping".Notransmissionstakeplace.WhenPingissettoOff,
theES80stopswiththecurrentechogramshown.
Tip
Ifyouwishtoestablishapassivesystem(transmissionswitchedoff,butnormal
reception),usethefunctionofferedbytheNormalOperationdialogbox.
Ifyouwishtoinvestigatetheambientnoise,choosePassivemodeintheNormal
Operationdialogbox.Anynoiseordisturbanceinthewater-withinthe
transducer'sfrequencyrange-willthenbedetectedandshown.Thisfeaturewill
forexamplebeabletopickupdisturbancesfromotherhydroacousticsystemson
yourownvessel,oronothervesselsinthevicinity.
AutoStart
TheAutoStartfunctionallowstheES80tostart"pinging"automaticallywhenthe
softwareprogramisstarted.Twoconditionsmustbepresent:
•TheES80installationmustbeoperationalwithallrelevanttransceiversand
transducers.
•TheES80wasinNormalmodethelasttimeyouswitcheditoff.
