Thisnumberreectsthemaximumsizeofthedatapacketsthatcanbe
transferredontheEthernetlinetoandfromthelocalareanetwork(LAN).
Incomputernetworking,themaximumtransmissionunit(MTU)ofa
communicationsprotocolofalayeristhesize(inbytesoroctets)ofthe
largestprotocoldataunitthatthelayercanpassonwards.MTUparameters
usuallyappearinassociationwithacommunicationsinterface(NIC,
serialport,etc.).Standards(Ethernet,forexample)canxthesizeofan
MTU;orsystems(suchaspoint-to-pointseriallinks)maydecideMTU
atconnecttime.
