Description
Thetransducerimpedanceismeasuredinrealtimeduringeachtransmission("ping").
ForCWtransmissions,theimpedanceandphasevaluesforeachtransducersectorare
providedinatabularformat.ForLFMtransmissions,theresultsareshownintwoplots.
Anoperationaltransducerelementwillhaveanimpedanceofapproximately75Ω±40%.
However,varioustransducerswillhavedifferentvalues,andyouneedtocheckthe
relevantdatasheet.Compositetransducershavearelativelyatimpedancecurve.Older
transducerswith"ton-pilz"elementshaveaslightlyhigherimpedanceatthebeginning
oftheping.Thisisbydesign.
•Ifyoumeasure∞Ω(opencircuit),youcanassumethatthetransducerimpedance
transformerhasbroken,orthatthecableisdamaged.
•Ifyoumeasure0Ω(short),youcanassumethateitherthetransducerimpedance
transformerorthecablehasshorted.Y oumayalsohaveaproblemwithsaltwater
penetration.
•Thetransducerimpedanceisacomplexvalue,andithasaphase.Thisphaseshould
beassmallaspossible.Alargephasemeansthatyoulooseoutputpower.
