Occasionally,difcultenvironmental,
waterorbottomconditionsmay
inhibit"bottomlock".TheES80
needsthis"bottomlock"tolocatethe
correctdepth,andtostayonitduring
theoperation,evenifthedepth
changescontinuously.TheBottom
Detectionparametersareprovided
torectifythis.
TheBottomDetectionparameters
provideseparatelimitsforminimum
andmaximumdepth.Theselimits
maybeusedtoobtain"bottom
lock"onthedepthwhentheES80
istransmitting.
TheBottomBackstepparameterallowsyoutomanuallymodifywhereonthebottom
echothedepthshallbedetected.
Tip
Ifyouhaveproblemswithbottomdetection,youmayconsiderdisablingit.Thiscanbe
usefulifyouonlywishtostudytargetsinthewatercolumn.
IfyouuseanOlexsystem,youcantakeadvantageoftheBottomBackstepparameterto
detectseagrass.Decreasethebottombackstepvalue(makeitmorenegative)sothat
thebottomisdetectedatthetopofanareaofseagrass.TheOlexwillthendetectthe
realbottom,andtheresultistheheightoftheseagrass.

BottomDetection
Thisisan"on/off"switch.Selecttheboxtoenablethefunction.
MaximumDepth
Thesearchforthebottomechoextendsdowntothisdepthwheneverbottom
trackislost.
Useaslightlylargerdepthvaluethanthedeepestspotyouexpecttovisit.Thiswill
preventannoyinglylongpingintervalseverytimethebottomtrackislost.Adepth
valueofeither0(zero)orlessthantheminimumdepthdisablesthebottomdetector.
Note
Ifyousetmaximumdepthtoavalueidenticalorsmallerthantheminimumvalue,
thebottomdetectionalgorithmwillbedisabled.TheES80willnotdetectthe
bottomatall,andthedisplayeddepthwillbe0.00m.
