2 SAFETY AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION
2.14 MHL360 E
2.5.4 Putting the machine into operation
safely
Before putting the machine into operation,
always perform a thorough walk-around in-
spection of the machine.
Check the machine for loose pins, tears,
wear, leaks and deliberate damage.
Never put a damaged machine into opera-
tion.
Have the damage made good immediately.
Make sure that all hoods and covers are
closed, but locks are not closed off.
Check that all safety signs are present.
Check that the window glass and the inside
and outside mirrors are clean. Secure doors
and windows against inadvertent move-
ments.
Make sure that no-one is working on or un-
der the machine and warn any persons
standing nearby by pressing the horn before
putting the machine into operation.
Before putting the machine into operation,
adjust the operator's seat, the mirror and
the operating levers so you can work com-
fortably and safely.
Follow the applicable regulations for the site
you are working on.
Never put the machine into operation with-
out the cab.
2.5.5 Starting the machine safely
During the regeneration, the exhaust gas
temperature becomes very hot and the ex-
haust gas speed increases. Check before
you start to see whether the environment is
suitable for regeneration.
Before starting, check all control lights and
instruments to make certain they are work-
ing properly, move all operating levers to
the neutral gate and fold the left armrest
down.
After starting the diesel engine, give a short
blast of the horn to warn persons who are in
the vicinity of the machine.
Only start the machine from the operator's
seat.
Unless there are instructions to the contrary,
start the diesel engine as described in the
operating instructions.
Only allow the diesel engine to run in en-
closed rooms if there is adequate ventila-
tion. If necessary, open doors and windows
to ensure a proper supply of fresh air.
Bring the diesel engine and hydraulic fluid
up to operating temperature. Low oil tem-
peratures cause the control unit to respond
sluggishly.
Check the loading equipment control unit to
ensure it is working properly.
Carefully move the machine to open terrain
and then check all safety-relevant functions.
