5.19 Important functions
5.19.1 Close-range expansion

Danger of injury from collisions
The close-range expansion is not a
safety device; it is an auxiliary func-
tion.
Collisions may arise due to:
- Work attachments
- Overhead load
- Cut-off path (168/3)
• A minimum safety distance of
1.5 m from the cab must be ob-
served for all parts of the loading
equipment and load.
• No rapid movements of the dip-
perstick close to the cut-off
points.
In an emergency: Administer first
aid, seek treatment from a doctor
Automatic cut-off
When the dipperstick is retracted, the grab or
the attached load can collide with the cab. If
during retraction the dipperstick reaches the
cut-off limit (168/2), the close range shut-off
system stops the "retract dipperstick" function.
The coordinates of the cut-off range are per-
manently preset. Depending on the oil tem-
perature and equipment configuration, the
cut-off path (168/3) can be extended by up to
0.5 m, and depending on the retracting speed
and grab content by up to 1.0 m.
The close-range expansion is always deac-
tivated automatically when the ignition is
switched on. Corresponding indicators
(169/28) and text messages (169/34) appear
on the main control display.
