(5) Reinstall th e steerin g column openin g cover
onto the instrument pa nel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/IN-
STRUME NT PANE L/STEERING COLUMN OPEN-
ING COVER - INSTALLATION).
(6) Reinstall the steer ing wheel onto the steer ing
column. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/COLUMN/STE ER-
ING WHEE L - INSTALLATION).
(7) Reconnect th e clockspring upper pigtail wir e
connect ors to the t erminals of the horn switch
locat ed in the hub ca vit y of the steering wheel.
(8) Reinstall th e driver air bag ont o the steer ing
wheel. (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/RESTRAINTS/
DRIVER AIRBAG - INSTALLATION).

DESCRIPTION
The color-keyed, in ject ion molded, th ermoplastic
dr iver air bag protective tr im cover is the most visible
pa rt of the dr iver a irba g (Fig. 18). The driver a irba g
is located in the center of the steerin g wheel, wher e
it is secured with two screws to the arm ature of the
horn swit ch with in the h ub cavity of th e four-spoke
st eering wheel. Concea led beneat h the driver airba g
trim cover ar e t he folded airba g cushion, th e a irba g
cushion ret ainer, the a irba g hou sing, t he airbag infla -
tor, a nd th e reta iners that secure t he in flat or to t he
air bag housing (Fig. 19). The airba g cushion, hous-
ing, and inflator are secured wit hin an integral
recepta cle molded int o the back of the trim cover.
