INSTALLATION
NOTE: A flex rod torque wrench must not be used
in order to avoid angle errors when tightening to
degrees.
(1) Align flywheel and inner and out er washer s
with stra igh t pin. Tigh ten bolts in two st ages. 45N·m
(33 lbs. ft.) then 90° (Fig. 35).
(2) Remove th e retainin g lock fr om th e cra nksh aft/
star ter r in g gear.
(3) In st all tra nsmission (Refer t o 21 - TRANSMIS-
SION/TRANSAXLE /AUTOMATIC - W5J 400 -
INSTALLATION).
(4) Connect nega tive bat tery cable.
WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN THE
ENGINE IS IN OPERATION. DO NOT STAND IN A
DIRECT LINE WITH THE FAN. DO NOT PUT YOUR
HANDS NEAR THE PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO
NOT WEAR LOOSE CLOTHES.

INSTALLATION - CRANKSHAFT LOCK
(1) Raise and support t he vehicle.
(2) Remove the genera tor wiring h arness duct at
the cr ankcase a nd set aside.
(3) Remove inspection cover (Fig. 36).
(4) Remove the bolts (F ig. 36).
(5) In sert th e cra nksh aft lock #8932 into th e
st arter ring gear a nd insta ll the ret ain ing bolts.
Tighten t he lock bolts to 9 N·m (80 lbs. in .) (Fig. 36).
