REMOVAL - INTERMEDIATE GEAR
(1) Disconn ect nega tive battery cable.
(2) Remove engine cover (Refer to9-ENGINE-
REMOVAL).
WARNING: NO FIRE, FLAMES OR SMOKING. RISK
OF POISONING FROM INHALING OR SWALLOWING
FUEL. RISK OF INJURY TO EYES AND SKIN FROM
CONTACT WITH FUEL. POUR FUELS ONLY INTO
SUITABLE AND APPROPRIATELY MARKED CON-
TAINERS. WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING.
(3) Remove fuel h igh pressure lines injectors
(Refer to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM/F UEL INJ ECTION/
FUE L INJ ECTOR - RE MOVAL).
(4) Clean injectors and recesses (Refer t o 14 -
FUE L SYSTEM/F UEL INJ ECTION/FUEL INJ EC-
TOR - STANDARD P ROCEDURE).
(5) Remove cylinder head cover (Refer to 9 -
ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD
COVER(S) - REMOVAL).
(6) In sert locking pin through fir st ca mshaft bear-
ing cap into h ole in inlet camshaft sprocket to lock
inlet camsha ft.
(7) Remove timin g ch ain tension er (Refer t o 9 -
ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BE LT/CHAIN
AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL).
(8) Remove high pressure pump (Refer t o 14 -
FUE L SYSTE M/FUEL DELIVERY/FUEL INJ EC-
TION P UMP - REMOVAL).
(9) Remove cylinder head fron t cover (Refer t o 9 -
ENGINE/CYLINDER HE AD - REMOVAL).
(10) Remove top slide rail (Refer to9-ENGINE/
CYLINDER H EAD - RE MOVAL).
NOTE: Note position of dowel pin for camshaft
sprocket alignment during reassembly.
(11) Unbolt exh aust cam sh aft sprocket and
remove.
