WI PER ARM
DESCRIPTION
The wiper arms a re the rigid m ember s located
between the wiper pivots that pr otrude from th e cowl
top panel near the base of the windshield and the
wiper blades on the windshield gla ss (Fig. 23). Th ese
wiper ar ms fea tur e an over-center hin ge that allows
easy access to t he win dsh ield glass for cleaning. The
wiper ar m has a die cast met al pivot end wit h a
lar ge tapered mountin g hole at one end. A r emova ble
molded bla ck plast ic pivot cover fit s loosely over an d
pivots on t he wiper arm hinge pin, th en snaps over
the pivot end to concea l the wiper a rm retaining nut.
The wide en d of a taper ed, sta mped steel cha nnel
hinges on and is secured wit h a hin ge pin to the
pivot end of the wiper arm . On e en d of a long, r igid,
st amped steel stra p, with a sm all h ole nea r its pivot
end, is rivet ed an d crim ped wit hin the na rrow end of
the sta mped st eel cha nnel. Th e tip of th e wiper bla de
end of this stra p is ben t back un der itself to form a
sm all hook. Concea led within t he st amped steel
channel, one en d of a long sprin g is engaged with a
wire hook on the under side of th e die ca st pivot end,
while the oth er end of th e sprin g is hooked th rough
the sma ll hole in the steel strap. The entire wiper
arm ha s a satin black fi n ish applied to all of its vis-
ible surfa ces.
Nea r the h ook of the wiper ar m steel strap is a
locat ing hole for th e washer nozzle th at is moun ted
on the wiper arm. A U-shaped molded plastic guar d
sn aps on to the underside of the st rap to concea l and
pr otect t he washer nozzle hose. There are also two
sm all m olded plastic washer n ozzle hose rou ting
brackets clipped onto th e underside of th e wiper ar m
pivot en d.
The wiper arms for t his m odel are un equal in
length, with the longer ar m bein g insta lled on th e
left (dr iver ) side of the windshield. A wiper arm can-
not be adjusted or repaired. If dam aged or faulty, the
entire wiper arm un it must be r eplaced. The washer
