STANDARD PROCEDURE - REPAIRING LEAKS
For proper r epair ing, a radial tire must be removed
from the wheel. Repair s shou ld on ly be made if t he
defect, or punct ure, is in t he tread area (Fig. 17). The
tire shou ld be replaced if th e pun cture is loca ted in
the sidewall.
Defla te tire com pletely before removin g the tire
from the wh eel. Use lu brica tion such as a mild soap
solution when dism ounting or mou nting tire. Use
tools free of burr s or sharp edges which could dam-
age the t ire or wheel rim.
Before mounting tire on wheel, ma ke su re all r ust
is rem oved from t he rim bea d and repa int if neces-
sary.
In st all wheel on vehicle, a nd t igh ten t o proper
torqu e specificat ion, (Refer to 22 - TIRES/WHEE LS/
WHEELS - SPECIF ICATIONS).
CLEANING
Remove the protective coating on the tires befor e
delivery of a vehicle. This coating ma y ca use deteri-
oration of the tir es.
To remove th e protective coating, apply warm
water an d let it soa k for a few minutes. Afterwar ds,
scr ub t he coatin g a way with a soft bristle brush.
St eam clea ning may also be used to rem ove the coat-
ing.
NOTE: DO NOT use gasoline, mineral oil, oil-based
solvent or a wire brush for cleaning.

REMOVAL
(1) Open the back doors.
(2) Loosen the bolts for the spar e tir e hold down
(Fig. 18).
(3) Push up on th e spare tir e carrier and push the
hold downs t o the side an d lower (Fig. 18).
(4) Remove the spa re tire.
INSTALLATION
(1) In st all t he spa re tire to the spa re tire carrier
(Fig. 18).
(2) Raise th e t ire an d wheel assmbly an d hook on
the h old downs (Fig. 18).
(3) Then tigh ten th e hold downs to secure th e
spa re tire in place and t hen close t he doors.
