OPERATION
The wiper arms are designed to mecha nically
transmit the m otion from the wiper pivot s to the
wiper blades. Th e wiper arm mu st be pr operly
indexed to th e wiper pivot in order to m ain tain t he
pr oper wiper bla de t ravel on th e gla ss. The tapered
mounting hole in th e wiper ar m pivot end interlocks
with th e ser rations on the ou ter cir cumfer ence of the
wiper pivot sh aft, allowing positive en gagemen t an d
finite a djustment of t his connection . The m ounting
nut locks the wiper arm to t he thr eaded end of the
wiper pivot sha ft. The spring-loaded wiper arm h inge
controls the down-force applied through th e tip of the
wiper arm to the wiper blade on th e glass. The hook
formation on t he t ip of th e wiper a rm pr ovides a cra -
dle for securing an d lat ching t he wiper blade pivot
block to the wiper arm.
REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect th e washer nozzle hose fr om th e
elbow fitt ing on t he cowl top pa nel near t he pivot en d
of the wiper arm (Fig. 24).
CAUTION: The use of a screwdriver or other prying
tool to remove a wiper arm may distort it. This dis-
tortion could allow the arm to come off of the wiper
pivot during wiper operation, regardless of how
carefully it is reinstalled.
(2) Unsn ap th e end of th e pivot cover from th e
wiper bla de pivot end, then pull the cover a way from
the wiper arm hinge pin to remove the cover from
the wiper blade.
(3) Remove the n ut th at secures the wiper arm to
the wiper pivot shaft.
(4) If necessary, use a suitable ba tter y ter minal
pu ller to disen gage th e wiper a rm fr om the wiper
pivot sha ft (Fig. 25).
(5) Remove the wiper arm pivot en d from the
wiper pivot shaft .
INSTALLATION

ignition switch back to the Off position. The wiper
motor is now in its park position.
NOTE: The wiper arms and wiper blades for this
model are both unequal in length, with the longer
arm and blade being installed on the left (driver)
side of the windshield.
(1) The wiper a rms m ust be indexed to th e wiper
pivot sh afts with the wiper mot or in the par k posi-
tion to be properly in st alled. Posit ion t he wiper arm
pivot en ds on to the wiper pivots so that the lower
edge of t he wiper arm tip is align ed with th e black
wiper align ment line loca ted near th e lower edge of
the windshield glass (Fig. 24).
(2) Once t he wiper blade is aligned, lift the wiper
arm away from th e windshield sligh tly to relieve t he
spring ten sion on the pivot end a nd push the pivot
hole in the pivot end of the ar m down firmly a nd
evenly over t he wiper pivot sh aft. Gently lower the
wiper ar m until t he wiper bla de rests on th e glass.
