DESCRIPTION
Original equipmen t wheels a re designed for th e
specified Maximum Vehicle Capacity.
All m odels use st eel or aluminum wheels.
Aluminum wheels require special balance weights
and alignment equipment.

access to t he valve stem .
OPERATION
The wheel (Fig. 19) has raised sect ions between
the r im flan ges and the rim well. Initia l infla tion of
the tire forces the bead over th ese raised sections. In
case of tire failure, the r aised section s hold t he tir e
in position on t he wheel un til the vehicle can be
brought to a sa fe stop.

WHEEL INSPECTION
In spect wh eels for:
• Excessive ru n out
• Dents or cracks
• Da maged wheel lug nut holes
• Air Leaks from any area or surfa ce of the rim
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair a wheel by hammer-
ing, heating or welding.
If a wheel is damaged an original equipment
repla cement wheel should be used. When obt aining
repla cement wh eels, they sh ould be equivalent in
load ca rrying capa city. Th e diameter, width, offset,
pilot h ole and bolt circle of th e wh eel should be the
sa me as the origin al wheel.
WARNING: FAILURE TO USE EQUIVALENT
REPLACEMENT WHEELS MAY ADVERSELY
AFFECT THE SAFETY AND HANDLING OF THE
VEHICLE. USED WHEELS ARE NOT RECOM-
MENDED. THE SERVICE HISTORY OF THE WHEEL
MAY HAVE INCLUDED SEVERE TREATMENT OR
VERY HIGH MILEAGE. THE RIM COULD FAIL WITH-
OUT WARNING.

STANDARD PROCEDURE - WHEEL REPLACE-
MEN T
The wheel stud/lugs a re designed for specific appli-
cations. They must be replaced with equivalent par ts.
Do not u se replacemen t parts of lesser qualit y or a
substitu te design.
Before in st alling the wh eel, be sur e t o remove a ny
build up of corrosion on t he wh eel mounting su rfaces.
Ensur e wh eels are installed with good metal-to-metal
contact. Improper in st allation could cause loosening
of wh eel nu ts. This could a ffect th e safet y and han-
dling of you r vehicle.
To insta ll the wheel, first position it proper ly on
the m ounting su rface. All wh eel nu ts should t hen be
tightened just snug. Gradually tighten them in
sequence to the proper torque specification. Never
use oil or grease on studs.
Wheels mu st be repla ced if t hey h ave:
• Excessive ru nout
• Bent or dented
• Leak air th rough welds
• Have dama ged bolt holes
Wheel repa irs employin g hammerin g, heating, or
welding a re not a llowed.
Original equ ipmen t wheels are available through
your dea ler. Replacemen t wheels from any other
sou rce shou ld be equivalent in :
• Loa d carr ying capacity
• Dia met er
• Width
• Offset
• Mou nting con figu ration
Failur e to use equ iva lent repla cement wheels m ay
affect t he safet y and h andling of your vehicle.
Replacement with used wh eels is not recommen ded.
Their service h istory may have in cluded severe tr eat-
ment.
STANDARD PROCEDURE - DUAL REAR WHEEL
INSTALLATION
The tir es on both wheels m ust be completely raised
off th e ground when t igh tening the lug nuts. This
