(8) Remove th e seat belt turning loop heigh t
adju st er from the inn er B-pillar.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, on
vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supple-
mental restraint system before attempting any
steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt
tensioner, or instrument panel component diagno-
sis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery
negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for
the system capacitor to discharge before perform-
ing further diagnosis or service. This is the only
sure way to disable the supplemental restraint sys-
tem. Failure to take the proper precautions could
result in accidental airbag deployment.
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, during
and following any seat belt service, carefully
inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware,
retractors, and anchors for proper installation, oper-
ation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut,
frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted.
Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that
has a damaged or inoperative buckle or retractor.
Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch
plate or anchor plate. Never attempt to repair a seat
belt component. Always replace damaged or faulty
seat belt components with the correct, new and
unused replacement parts listed in the
DaimlerChrysler Mopar Parts Catalog.
(1) Position the seat belt tur ning loop heigh t
adju st er onto the inner B-pillar (Fig. 42).
(2) In st all and t igh ten the two screws that secure
the seat belt turnin g loop h eigh t adj u st er to th e
upper inner B-pillar. Tight en the screws to 35 N·m
(26 ft. lbs.).
(3) Position th e front seat belt turnin g loop onto
the h eight adjuster on t he upper B-pilla r (Fig. 41).
(4) In st all an d tight en th e nu t th at secu res the
front seat belt tu rning loop to t he height adjuster.
Tighten t he nu t to 35 N·m (26 ft . lbs.).
(5) Position t he height adj u st er trim to the upper
B-pillar so t hat the driver on t he back of t he trim
enga ges th e lug of th e height a djuster (F ig. 40).
(6) Reinstall the tr im pa nel onto t he in side of th e
B-pillar. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INTERIOR/B-PILLAR
TRIM - INSTALLATION).
(7) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.
SI DE CU RTAI N AI RBAG
DESCRIPTION
Option al side cur tain airbags are ava ila ble for this
model when it is also equipped with dual front air-
bags. These airba gs a re passive, in flatable, Supple-
ment al Restraint System (SRS) componen ts (Fig. 43).
This syst em is designed to reduce injuries to t he
vehicle occupan ts in the event of a side impact colli-
sion.
Vehicles equipped with side curt ain a irba gs ha ve
two individua lly cont rolled curtain a irba g un its.
These airbag units are concealed and mou nted above
the front door openings wh ere th ey are each secured
to on e of th e roof side rails. Ea ch folded air bag cu sh -
ion is contained within a ch annel in the molded pla s-
tic garnish molding that extends along t he roof rail
from th e A-pilla r at th e front of the vehicle t o just
behind the B-pilla r. A teth er exten ds down the A-pil-
lar fr om the front of t he a irba g cu sh ion, wher e it is
secured to the base of the pillar near the belt lin e
with a screw.
The hybrid-t ype inflator for each airba g is con-
nected to the airba g cush ion by a tu bula r m anifold.
The infla tor bracket and the a irba g cushion chann el
are loca ted with a sta mped m etal lug to a bore in t he
roof r ail, th en secured with screws at t he A-pillar in
the front a nd the B-pillar in t he rear. A two-wire pig-
tail wire is rout ed from the air bag inflator down t he
B-pillar where it connect s the unit to a take out of
the vehicle body wire h arness with a keyed and
lat ched connect or insulator.
The side curtain airbag unit can not be a djusted or
repaired a nd must be repla ced if deployed, fau lty, or
