ment panel.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, on
vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supple-
mental restraint system before attempting any
steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt
tensioner, or instrument panel component diagno-
sis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery
negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for
the system capacitor to discharge before perform-
ing further diagnosis or service. This is the only
sure way to disable the supplemental restraint sys-
tem. Failure to take the proper precautions could
result in accidental airbag deployment.
(1) Position the instr umen t cluster to the instru-
ment panel.
(2) Align the t wo molded plastic pivot loops int e-
gra l to the base of the cluster hood between t he t wo
pa irs of molded plastic pivot hooks that ar e integral
to th e top of instr umen t pan el base str uctur e, then
pu sh downward on the t op of t he cluster un til the
loops snap into enga gement wit h the h ooks (Fig. 6).
(3) Roll th e top of the in st rument cluster rearward
to access, recon nect, and latch th e t wo frame wire
harness conn ectors for the clu st er to th e connector
recepta cles on th e back of the cluster h ousing.
(4) Engage and latch the Remote Keyless En try
(RKE)/immobilizer module to t he ba ck of the instru -
ment cluster r ear cover (Fig. 5)
(5) Roll th e top of th e instru ment clu ster forwa rd
to position the instrument cluster into the instru-
ment panel.
(6) In st all and t igh ten the two screws that secure
the instr ument cluster mount ing ears to the instr u-
ment pan el base structu re (Fig. 4). Tigh ten the
scr ews to 2 N·m (20 in. lbs.).
(7) Reinstall the cluster top cover onto th e instr u-
ment pa nel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT
PANEL/TOP COVE R - CLUSTER - INSTALLA-
TION).
(8) Reinstall the cluster bezel onto the instrumen t
pa nel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/
CLUSTE R BEZEL - INSTALLATION).
(9) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.
CAUTION: If an ineffective and unresponsive Instru-
ment Cluster (IC) has been replaced with a new
unit, the new IC must be initialized and configured
for certain optional equipment on the vehicle using
a cluster programming procedure. (Refer to 8 -
ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - STANDARD
PROCEDURE - CLUSTER PROGRAMMING). Failure
to correctly perform this programming procedure
(also referred to as parameterization) prior to the IC
being electronically locked down will result in the
IC being incorrectly and irreversibly configured for
improper vehicle equipment options, which will
require the IC be replaced again with another new
and unused unit to resolve.
