WASHER RESER VOIR
DESCRIPTION
The molded pla stic washer fluid reservoir is
locat ed in the right rea r cor ner of the engine com-
pa rtmen t (Fig. 19). Two integra l mou nting posts, on e
on th e bottom and one at t he rear of th e reservoir,
each are enga ged in r ubber mounting grommets, on e
in the dash panel and one in the t op of th e r igh t
front wheel h ouse. A single nut and wa sh er secu res
an integra l moun ting hole nea r the top of th e r eser-
voir to a st ud nu t on t he r igh t in ner fender shield.
Also nea r the upper inboard side of th e reservoir a re
two integra l hose r outing troughs, one for t he sta n-
da rd wa sh er su pply hose and the second for the
opt ional vent hose u sed when t he wa sh er pump/mo-
tor is equipped with a n integra l washer fluid level
switch .
A molded blue plastic filler cap with an integral
reta iner rin g and tether str ap sna ps over the open
end of th e filler neck, and hangs from the tether
when it is r emoved for inspect ing or adjusting th e
fluid level in the reservoir. There is a sum p area near
the bottom inboar d side of the reservoir with a dedi-
cated hole provided for th e mou nting of th e washer /
pu mp motor u nit and rubber grom met seal.
The washer reservoir cann ot be r epa ired and, if
faulty or dam aged, it must be repla ced. Th e wa sh er
reservoir, th e mountin g grommet s, the grommet sea l
for the washer pu mp/motor unit, and the filler cap
are each available for service r eplacem ent.
OPERATION
The wa sher fluid reservoir provides a secure,
on-veh icle stor age loca tion for a lar ge reser ve of
washer fl u id for operat ion of the washer system. The
washer reservoir filler neck provides a clear ly
marked and readily accessible poin t from which t o
add wash er flu id to th e r eservoir. The wa sh er/pump
motor u nit is locat ed in a sump area n ear t he bott om
of the reservoir to be cer tain that washer fluid will
be available to the pump a s the fluid level in t he res-
ervoir becomes depleted. Th e opt iona l washer fluid
level switch is designed to pr ovide a dequate warnin g
to t he vehicle operator that the washer fluid level is
low, before the washer syst em will no longer oper ate.
REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect and isolate the battery nega tive
cable.
(2) Remove the upper turbocharger heat sh ield
and t he upper a ir cleaner h ousing fr om th e en gin e
compart ment (F ig. 20).
(3) Disconn ect the vehicle wire harness connect or
for t he washer pu mp/motor unit from t he motor con-
nector r eceptacle.
(4) Disengage the vehicle wire harness from the
routing clip in tegr al to th e front of the wa sh er reser-
voir (Fig. 21).
