(15) Remove va lve st em seals (F ig. 28).
(16) Remove bott om valve spring ret ain er (Fig. 27).
NOTE: Inspect all cylinder head components for
wear or damage.
(17) Repeat pr ocedu re for each cylinder as neces-
sary.
REMOVAL - VALVES
(1) Disconn ect nega tive battery cable.
(2) Remove engine cover (Refer to9-ENGINE
COVER - REMOVAL).
(3) Remove cylin der hea d (Refer to9-ENGINE/
CYLINDER H EAD - RE MOVAL).
WARNING: Suitably mark the valve and the position
in the cylinder head before removal. Failure to do
so will result in improperly seated valves and pos-
sible engine damage after reassembly.
NOTE: Using tool, screw retaining fork into
threaded edge of cylinder head and position thrust
piece vertically at top of valve spring retainer.
(4) Usin g a suita ble va lve spring compressor, com-
press valve spring.
(5) Remove va lve collet s (Fig. 27).
(6) Remove top va lve spring reta iner and valve
spring (Fig. 27).
(7) Remove va lve st em seals (F ig. 28).
(8) Repeat st eps 5 t hrough 9 for each valve as nec-
ess a r y.
(9) Remove cylinder h ead from a ssem bly board.
WARNING: Valves, springs and retainers must be
kept in order of the cylinder they were removed.
(10) Remove va lves.
INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION - VALVE SPRINGS
NOTE: Inspect all valve springs and retainers for
wear or damage. Replace as necessary. Do Not
reuse gaskets.
(1) Position piston of cylin der t o be processed to
TDC by rotatin g the crankshaft clockwise. DO NOT
crank engine or rotate engine counter clock-
wise.
(2) In st all cran ksha ft lock, special tool #8932.
(3) Seal injector h ole with adaptor # 9534 and
reta in wit h origina l ten sioning claw.
(4) Connect r egulated air supply t o specia l tool #
9534 a nd pressurize t he cylin der t o 5 bar (73 psi.).
(5) In st all lower valve spring retainer (Fig. 27).
(6) In st all valve stem sea l (Fig. 29).
(7) In st all valve spring (Fig. 27).
(8) In st all valve spring retainer (Fig. 27).
