• Rain Sensor - Vehicles equipped with an
opt ional automat ic wiper feat ure ha ve an electr onic
rain sensor concealed with in the base of t he rear
view mirror unit on the inside of the lamina ted wind-
shield gla ss.
• Rain Sensor Control Module - Vehicles
equipped with an optional aut omatic wiper featu re
have a n electron ic ra in sensor con trol modu le located
under the lower instr umen t panel above th e acceler-
ator pedal in t he passen ger com pa rtmen t of the vehi-
cle.
• Wa s h e r F l u i d L e v e l S w i t c h - Th e optional
washer flu id level switch is integral to a unique ver-
sion of the wash er pum p/m otor u nit, which is loca ted
in a dedicated h ole on the top of th e su mp area nea r
the ba ck of th e windshield washer r eservoir on th e
right fr ont fender wh eel house in th e engine com-
part ment .
• Wa s h e r N o z z l e - A sin gle wa sh er nozzle with
three separa te orifices is secur ed with integra l sn ap
featu res to each wiper arm . The hoses for t he washer
nozzles ar e concealed benea th a m olded plastic gu ide
on th e under side of each wiper arm and routed to t he
engine compar tmen t t hrough un ique molded plastic
elbow fittings located n ear each wiper pivot at the
base of t he windshield.
• Wa sh e r P u m p/Mo to r - Two differen t wa sh er
pu mp/motor un its are ava ila ble for t his model. One
version h as an in tegr al washer flu id level switch tha t
pr ovides a h ard wired in pu t to t he in st rument cluster
for con trol of the optional washer fluid indicator. The
washer pump/mot or un it is located in a dedicated
hole on the top of th e sum p ar ea near the back of the
windshield wash er reservoir on t he right front fen der
wheel house in the engine compartment.
• Wa s h e r R e s e r v o i r - The washer reser voir is
locat ed on th e right front fen der wheel hou se in t he
engine com pa rtment. The wa sh er r eservoir filler is
accessed from the right front corner of the engine
compart ment .
• Wi p e r A r m -Thetwounequallengthwiper
arms a re secu red to the two wiper pivots, which
extend through the cowl panel near the base of t he
windshield. Th e longer arm is inst alled on the left
(dr iver ) side of t he windshield.
• Wi p e r B l a d e -Thetwounequallengthwiper
blades are secured to the two wiper arms, and a re
pa rked on the gla ss n ear the bot tom of th e wind-
sh ield when the wiper system is not in oper ation.
The longer blade is inst alled on the left (driver) side
of the windshield.
• Wi p e r L i n k a g e - The wiper pivots are the on ly
visible componen ts of th e wiper linkage. The rem ain-
der of th e linkage is concealed wit hin t he engine
compart ment just behind the h ood open ing. The
wiper linkage module in cludes the two wiper drive
lin ks, th e wiper mot or cran k arm, the t wo wiper piv-
ots, and t he linkage an d m otor moun ting bra cket.
• Wi p e r Mo t o r - The wiper motor is secur ed to
the wiper linkage module bra cket on the un der side of
the cowl pan el within t he engine compartmen t. The
wiper mot or output sha ft and crank arm ext end
through a clearance h ole in the moun ting bra cket ,
where they are connect ed t o a crank ar m that drives
the wiper linkage.
• Wi p e r R e l a y - Th e wiper relay is located in a
dedicated recept acle on the lower left su rface of th e
fuse block under neat h th e steerin g column behind
the fuse access pa nel a nd t he steer ing column open-
ing panel. Th e wiper relay is a passive com pon ent on
vehicles equipped with the optional automa tic wiper
system.

control module is integral to the fuse block loca ted
underneath the steering colum n. Th e fuse block is
concealed behind the fuse a ccess panel and th e steer-
ing column opening pan el, wher e it is secur ed wit h
scr ews to the steerin g column . The wiper system
functions of this module a re passive on vehicles
equipped with t he optional au tomat ic wiper system .
Hard wir ed cir cuitry connects t he wiper and
washer syst em com pon ents to the electrical syst em of
the veh icle. These ha rd wired circuits a re integra l t o
severa l wire harnesses, which are rout ed thr oughou t
the veh icle and retained by ma ny different met hods.
These circuits may be con nected to each ot her, to th e
vehicle elect rical system a nd to th e wiper and washer
system components thr ough th e use of a combina tion
of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and man y
differen t types of wire ha rness terminal connectors
and in su lators. Refer to th e appropriate wiring infor-
mation. Th e wiring inform ation inclu des wiring dia-
gra ms, pr oper wire and con nector repair procedu res,
further details on wire harn ess routing and reten -
tion, as well as pin-out and loca tion views for the
var ious wire ha rness connectors, splices an d grounds.
OPERATION
The wiper and washer system is designed t o pro-
vide the vehicle opera tor with a convenient, safe, and
reliable means of mainta ining visibility th rough the
windshield gla ss. The various components of this sys-
tem are designed to convert electrical energy pro-
du ced by th e vehicle electrical system into the
mecha nica l action of th e wiper blades t o wipe the
outside surface of the glass, as well as in to the
hydra ulic action of the washer syst em to apply
washer fluid st ored in an on-board r eservoir to the
area of th e gla ss to be wiped. When combined, t hese
components pr ovide the means to effect ively main-
tain clear visibility for th e vehicle operator by remov-
ing excess accumulat ions of rain , snow, bu gs, m ud, or
