FU EL QU AN T I T Y CON T ROL
VALVE
DESCRIPTION
The fuel quan tity cont rol valve mount s to front of
the h igh pr essu re pump an d is con trolled by the
ECM. Th e qua ntity control va lve assists in maintain-
ing proper fuel quantity injected under a ll opera ting
conditions. Fuel tan k h eat protection is also provided
by th e quantit y con trol valve. The valve met ers the
exact amou nt of fuel to prevent excess hea ted fu el
from ret urning to the ta nk.
OPERATION
The ECM monitors the fuel system an d mea su res
for pressure vibrations. The E CM will then send a
pu lse width signa l to t he quan tity con trol va lve to
regu lat e the am ount of fuel to t he high pressur e
pump plun ger an d barrel assemblies. The valve t hen
adju st s t he in jection correction qu antity for ea ch
individual cylinder in lin e with the firing order, ther e
by eliminat ing the pressur e resonance in the fuel rail
and im pr oving ea ch independen t injector s operation .
The fuel quan tity valve also inter rupts the fuel su p-
ply to th e high pressure pum p plun ger a nd barr el
assemblies wh en the engine is swit ched off.
The E CM detect s the oper ating stat e which exists
at the engine by mean s of t he sensors. In order to
adapt the qu ant ity injected, either t he rail pressure
can be adju st ed by way of the pressu re regula tor
valve an d th e quan tity control valve, or t he actu ation
time of t he solenoid valves in t he fuel injectors ca n
be extended or shortened.
Fuel qu ant ity con trol is perfor med u nder the fol-
lowing oper ating conditions:
• Approximately 30 seconds aft er the engine has
star ted
• Fuel temper ature > 20°C (68°F )
• Engine n ot in decelerat ion mode
REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect the n egat ive battery cable.

connect or (Fig. 18).
(3) Remove the valve fasten ers and rem ove the
control valve (F ig. 18).
INSTALLATION
(1) Clean sea ling surfa ces.
(2) In st all new seal on sen sor.
(3) Position th e control va lve on to the high pres-
su re pum p a nd install fasten ers (Fig. 19).
(4) Connect wirin g ha rness connector to control
valve (F ig. 19).
(5) Connect nega tive bat tery cable.
(6) St art th e engine, allow to run , tu rn engine off
and inspect for leaks (Refer t o 14 - FUEL SYSTEM/
FUE L INJ ECTION - WARNING).
