INSTALLATION
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, on
vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supple-
mental restraint system before attempting any
steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt
tensioner, or instrument panel component diagno-
sis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery
negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for
the system capacitor to discharge before perform-
ing further diagnosis or service. This is the only
sure way to disable the supplemental restraint sys-
tem. Failure to take the proper precautions could
result in accidental airbag deployment.
(1) Pull the plunger of the br ake lam p switch out-
ward from the switch body to its t ravel lim it (Fig. 5).
(2) Reconnect the vehicle wire h arn ess to the
brake lamp switch conn ector receptacle.
(3) Depress an d hold th e br ake pedal in t he
depr essed position until th e brake lamp switch
insta lla tion is complet ed (Fig. 4).
(4) In sert the br ake lamp swit ch plunger thr ough
the mou nting h ole from behind un til the swit ch lock-
ing collar is fully seated aga inst th e pedal bracket .
(5) Rotat e th e brake lamp swit ch clockwise unt il
the locking tab on t he switch body fully engages th e
peda l br acket. F ull lockin g ta b engagemen t will be
accompanied by an au dible click.
NOTE: Do not pull the brake pedal upwards as this
will adjust the switch plunger to an incorrect posi-
tion. The switch is properly adjusted when the
switch plunger is just contacting (no gap) the brake
pedal arm with the pedal in the relaxed (released)
position.
(6) Relea se the br ake peda l from its depressed
position to aut omatically adju st the brake lamp
switch plunger.
(7) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.

cable.
(2) Depress an d hold th e br ake pedal in t he
depr essed position until th e brake lamp switch
adju st ment is complet ed.
(3) Pull the plunger of the br ake lam p switch out-
ward fr om the switch body to its travel limit .
NOTE: Do not pull the brake pedal upwards as this
will adjust the switch plunger to an incorrect posi-
tion. The switch is properly adjusted when the
switch plunger is just contacting (no gap) the brake
pedal arm with the pedal in the relaxed (released)
position.
(4) Relea se the br ake peda l from its depressed
position to aut omatically adju st the brake lamp
switch plunger.

REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect and isolate the battery nega tive
cable.
(2) If the vehicle is so equipped, remove th e trim
from the inside of th e right or left rear corner pillar.
(3) From in side the vehicle, use han d pressure to
pu sh the two lat ch ta bs towa rd th e center of the tail
lam p unit socket plate an d pull the socket pla te
st raight ou t from the inner rear pilla r (Fig. 6).
