scr ew the fuel pressure sensor in to th e fuel rail.
(2) Tighten the senor to 60 N·m (44 ft. lbs.), back
it off 90 degr ees and r etighten to 80 N·m (59 ft. lbs.)
(Fig. 4).
(3) Connect the sen sor wiring harness connector.
CAUTION: Care must be taken when installing the
engine cover. Assure the proper routing of the fuel
injector return fuel hose to the banjo bolt fitting in
the left rear corner of the cover. Failure to do so
may pinch or damage the hose causing fuel leakage
or a driveability concern.

DESCRI PT I ON
DESCRIPTION - HIGH PRESSURE PUMP
WARNING: (Refer to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM - WARN-
ING)
The high pressure pump is a fu el regula ted r adial
piston pump wit h three piston s arranged a t an angle
of 120°. The regulation being carried out by t he fu el
qu a n t it y va lve. Th e h igh pr es su r e pu m p is dr iven a t
about 1.3 times the speed of the camshaft. Specific
moving part s inside th e pump are graphit e coat ed to
assist with the lubrica tion pr ocess during oper ation.
The h igh pr essu re pum p is moun ted to the front of
the cylinder h ead an d must be repla ced as an assem-
bly sh ould a failure occur (Fig. 5).
DESCRIPTION - LOW PRESSURE PUMP
The electr ic fuel pum p is located in the fuel ta nk.
The pump draws wa rm or hot fuel from the fuel ta nk
module bowl a nd a lso dra ws cool fuel out of the ta nk.
The cool fuel is drawn in and is mixed wit h the fuel
alr eady in the bowl in a 5050 mix ratio. Refer to
fuel pump m odu le for ser vicing (Refer to 14 - FUE L
SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY/FUEL TANK MODULE
- REMOVAL).
OPERAT I ON
OPERATION
LOW PRESSURE SIDE
The fuel supplied by the low pressure pump flows
through th e fuel supply (5) at th e h igh pressure
pu mp and is passed to the fuel quan tity valve (11)
and the fuel pressure relief va lve (9). Any air
entr ained by the fu el is dir ected th rough the restric-
tor (10) th rough t he bleed port (7) to the ret urn flow
(6). Th e qu antity cont rol va lve (11) contr ols t he
amount of fuel tha t flows along the ring pa ssage (4)
through t he supply ports to t he th ree high pressur e
pu mp elemen ts. To lu brica te the plu nger and barrel
assemblies wh en th e qu antity cont rol valve is closed
