FU EL RAI L
DESCRIPTION
The fuel rail act s like a high pressur e stor e. It is
ava ila ble to all injectors for dra wing fuel wh ich h as
been com pr essed by t he high pressu re injection
pu mp. The ra il pressure sensor, ra il pressu re contr ol
valve, high pressure line, a nd t he ret urn flow line
are attached to the fu el rail.
OPERATION
The stored fuel volume in side the rail a cts as a
da mper for pressure fluctu ations wh ich resu lt
because of pulsating supply and brief large extrac-
tions of fuel during in jector firing. The rail primar ily
influences th e a tomizat ion of fuel at the injector noz-
zle, and the accuracy of in ject ed quantity during
injection.
