OPERATION
The wa sh er pump/m otor unit is connected to t he
vehicle electrical system t hrough a single t ake out
and connect or of th e vehicle wire h arness. The
washer pum p/motor is gr ounded at a ll t imes th rough
a take ou t of the vehicle wire ha rness with a single
eyelet ter minal con nector that is secu red under a
ground scr ew loca ted nea r the right h eadla mp in t he
engine compartmen t. The wa sh er pu mp/motor
receives batt ery cu rren t on a washer swit ch sense
circuit th rough t he closed contacts of the momen tar y
washer swit ch circuitry wit hin the multi-function
switch . When th e pump motor is energized, the rotor-
type pump pressurizes the washer fluid an d forces it
through th e pump out let nipple, the wa sh er plumb-
ing, and the washer nozzles ont o the windshield
gla ss. The washer pum p/m otor u nit can be diagnosed
using convent ional diagnostic tools and met hods.
REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect the vehicle wire harness connect or
for the wa sh er pump/motor from the motor conn ector
recepta cle (Fig. 18).
(2) Disconn ect the wa sh er supply h ose from the
barbed outlet nipple of t he wa sher pu mp/motor a nd
allow the washer fluid to drain into a clea n con tainer
for reuse.
(3) If the vehicle is so equipped, disconnect the
washer fluid level switch ven t hose from t he ba rbed
vent nipple nea r the top of the washer pu mp/motor
unit.
(4) Usin g hand pressure, firmly gra sp a nd pull the
washer pump out of t he r ubber grom met sea l in t he
reservoir. Ca re m ust be ta ken not to da mage the res-
ervoir.
(5) Remove the r ubber gromm et sea l from the
washer pum p m ounting h ole in t he wash er reservoir
and disca rd.
INSTALLATION
(1) In st all a new ru bber gromm et seal into the
washer pum p mou nting h ole in t he washer reser voir.
Always use a new r ubber grommet seal on the reser-
voir.
(2) Position t he inlet nipple of t he washer pump t o
the r ubber gromm et seal in the reservoir.
(3) Usin g ha nd pr essu re, press fir mly and evenly
on the wash er pump un til the inlet nipple is fully
seated in t he rubber gr ommet sea l in the wa sh er res-
ervoir moun tin g hole (Fig. 18).
(4) If the veh icle is so equipped, reconnect the
washer fluid level switch vent hose t o th e bar bed
vent nipple at the top of t he wa sher pum p/m otor
housin g.
(5) Reconnect the wa sh er hose to th e barbed ou tlet
nipple of the washer pu mp.
(6) Reconnect t he vehicle wire harn ess conn ector
for th e washer pump/mot or un it t o the motor connec-
tor recept acle.
(7) Refill t he wa sh er reservoir with the wa sh er
fluid drained fr om the reservoir during the remova l
pr ocedure.
