(1) Reconnect a nd lat ch the vehicle wire h arness
connect or for t he ACM to t he ACM connector recep-
tacle located on the left facing side of th e module
(Fig. 12).
(2) Carefully position the ACM cover base plate
onto the mou nting br acket that is welded onto the
floor pa nel under the dr iver side front sea t (Fig.
13).
(3) Carefully position th e ACM ont o the ACM cover
base pla te. When the ACM is correctly position ed, the
three ACM m ounting tabs will be a ligned wit h the
holes in the cover base pla te and the moun tin g
bracket, and t he or ient ation a rrow on the ACM label
will be pointed forwar d in the vehicle.
(4) In st all a nd tight en the three screws th at secur e
the ACM to the mount ing bra cket that is welded onto
the floor pa nel wit hin the driver side front sea t riser.
Be certain that t he groun d eyelet ter min al is
insta lled under th e screw for t he left rea r mount ing
tab. Tighten t he screws to 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.).
(5) Position t he ACM cover over the ACM and
pr ess it down firmly and even ly until it snaps in to
position over the ACM cover base pla te (Fig. 11).
(6) Position the con trol module bracket ont o the
top of th e driver side sea t riser (Fig. 10).
(7) In st all and t igh ten the two screws that secure
the control module bra cket to t he top of th e sea t riser
under t he driver side fr ont seat. Tighten th e screws
to 2 N·m (18 in. lbs.).
(8) Position the cover pan el onto the top of th e
dr iver side seat riser (Fig. 9).
(9) In st all and t igh ten the two screws that secure
the cover panel to th e top of the seat r iser un der the
dr iver side front seat . Tighten t he scr ews to 2 N·m
(18 in . lbs.).
(10) Move t he driver side front seat back to its
dr iving position.
(11) Do not reconnect t he ba tter y negative cable at
this t ime. The supplemental restra int syst em verifi-
cation test procedure sh ould be performed following
service of any supplem ental r estraint syst em compo-
nent . (Refer to 8 - ELE CTRICAL/RESTRAINTS -
STANDARD PROCEDURE - VERIFICATION TE ST).
NOTE: If the Airbag Control Module (ACM) has been
replaced with a new unit, it will be necessary to ini-
tialize the new ACM. In order to function properly,
the ACM must be programmed for the correct stan-
dard and optional supplemental restraint system
components installed in the vehicle. To initialize the
ACM, a diagnostic scan tool is required. Refer to
the appropriate diagnostic information.
CLOCK SPRI N G
DESCRIPTION
The clocksprin g assembly is secur ed with two
scr ews on to the m ulti-funct ion switch housing n ear
the top of the st eering colum n directly below t he
st eering wh eel (Fig. 14). Th e clockspr ing consists of a
flat , round molded plastic case tha t cont ain s a spool-
like m olded pla st ic rotor with a large exposed hub
covering the entire upper sur face of th e case. The
rotor hub h as a la rge center hole th at is interna lly
ribbed to en gage splines on the upper st eering col-
umn shaft , and t wo small clea ran ce holes that pro-
vide access to the ca se moun ting screws. The lower
