FU EL DRAI N T U BES
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - FUEL SUPPLY
RESTRICTIONS
LOW - PRESSURE LINES
Fuel su pply line rest rictions can cau se sta rting
pr oblems and pr event engine from accelerating. The
st arting problems inclu de; low power and/or wh ite
fog like exh aust.
Test all fuel supply lin es for r estriction s or block-
age. Flu sh or replace a s n ecessary.
HIGH - PRESSURE LINES
CAUTION: High pressure lines cannot contact each
other or other components. Do not attempt to weld
high-pressure fuel lines or to repair lines that are
damaged. High pressure lines must be replaced at
each disassembly. Use only recommended lines
when replacement of high-pressure fuel line is nec-
essary.
Restricted (kinked or bent) high-pressure lines can
cause star ting pr oblems, poor engine perform ance,
engine mis-fire and whit e smoke fr om exhaust (Refer
to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM - WARNING).
FU EL FI LT ER
DESCRIPTION
The fu el filter was designed for improved high a lti-
tude operat ion a nd for bett er re-start after th e fuel
tank has been completely em pt ied. The water drain
plug a nd wa ter in fuel (WIF) sen sor ar e located on
the top of the filter. Water is drained by using the in-
tank electric fu el pu mp to gener ate flow (a ttach a
hose to t he dr ain plu g). The filter h as a pressu re dif-
ferential of 200–300 mba r (2.9 psi.) when new. Wh en
dirty, the pressure differ ential r ises to 800 mbar (11.6
psi.) (Fig. 2).
REMOVAL
WARNING: NO SPARKS, OPEN FLAMES OR SMOK-
ING. RISK OF POISONING FROM INHALING AND
SWALLOWING FUEL. RISK OF INJURY TO EYES
AND SKIN FROM CONTACT WITH FUEL. POUR
FUELS ONLY INTO SUITABLE AND APPROPRI-
ATELY MARKED CONTAINERS. WEAR PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING.
CAUTION: DO NOT bend, twist or cut the fuel hose
clamps. The fuel hose clamps through out the fuel
system are reusable when using special tool #9539.
Orginal clamps must be used when servicing the
fuel system.
(1) Disconn ect nega tive battery cable.
(2) Disconn ect the wa ter in fuel (WIF) sen sor har-
ness connect or (Fig. 2).
(3) Relea se t he fuel inlet and outlet hose clam ps
using specia l tool #9539 at th e fuel filter (Fig. 2).
(4) Remove fuel filter reta ining bra cket bolt and
remove fuel filter (F ig. 2).
(5) Sepa rat e the WIF sen sor from the fuel filter
