OPERATION
The seat belt switch is designed t o control a pa th

Elect ro-Mechanica l Instrument Cluster (EMIC). The
seat belt switch contact is a ctuated by th e seat belt
lat ch plate being inser ted in to the buckle. When t he
seat belt lat ch plat e is inserted into th e buckle far
enough t o be enga ged by th e sea t belt buckle latch,
the switch leaf conta ct opens the seat belt switch
sense cir cuit groun d path; and, wh en the seat belt
lat ch pla te is released and extracted from th e sea t
belt buckle latch the switch leaf cont act is released,
closing the circu it to ground.
The sea t belt switch is connect ed is series between
ground and t he sea t belt swit ch sense input of t he
instr umen t cluster. The seat belt switch receives
ground at a ll tim es thr ough its pigtail wire connec-
tion to the vehicle wir e harness fr om an other ta ke
out of the veh icle wire ha rness. An eyelet terminal
connect or on the vehicle wire ha rness ground t ake

belt tension er is controlled by t he Airba g Control
Module (ACM) and is connected to the vehicle elec-
trical system thr ough a dedicated take out of t he
vehicle wir e harness by a keyed, snap-fit molded
plastic connect or insulat or to ensur e a secur e connec-

The seat belt tensioner ca nnot be repair ed and, if
faulty or damaged, the entire front sea t belt and
